CABLEVISION PRESENTS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD TO OWNER OF
INSPIRATIONAL BERMUDA-BASED CHARITY

(Hamilton, Bermuda - October 15, 2009) - Bermuda CableVision today awarded its latest Community Service Award to Phillip Rego, a local philanthropist who is providing inspiration to young Bermudians through his full-time work helping impoverished children in Haiti. Mr. Rego's achievements were formally recognised at an event held at BUEI today, attended by the Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation, the Hon. Neletha Butterfield, MBE, JP, MP.

Mr. Rego sold his successful landscaping business, Ideal Homes and Gardens, and used some of the proceeds to set up the Feed My Lambs Ministry at the beginning of 2009. The charity was established to bring relief to those in need around the world. To date, the charity has supported people in the remote city of Iquitos in the jungles of Peru, where it helped to put a roof on a refuge for previously homeless, pregnant teenagers. Feed My Lambs Ministry has also offered support to an orphanage in Kenya. However, since Mr. Rego's first mission in late 2008 to Eden Garden Orphanage in Montrouis, Haiti, the charity has been focused on helping more than 50 children that call it home, where he feels the need is currently the greatest.

The charity has to date raised over $80,000 to build a clinic, kitchen and feeding unit and to sponsor the education of a number of children in Haiti. It also collects and distributes food, clothing, shoes, personal items, school and medical supplies. As its next project, Feed My Lambs Ministry is planning to build a transitional home for high school students, also in Haiti, where they can learn a trade whilst they complete their studies and become financially self-sufficient.

Feed My Lambs Ministry is dedicated to bringing awareness to children in Bermuda about the situation that affects those less fortunate than themselves. Young Bermudians accompany the charity on its regular mission trips to encounter the adversity that children in Haiti face. The young people assist Mr. Rego and other volunteers in distributing supplies and taking care of the orphans. Mr. Rego hopes this will help young Bermudians to appreciate what they have and refocus their own lives for the better.

Mr. Rego said: “I travelled to Haiti for the first time in October 2008 to offer assistance after the country had encountered a horrific string of natural disasters, having been hit by four hurricanes-Gustav, Hannah, Ike and Faye-in the space of four weeks. This nation, often referred to as fourth-world where severe poverty is an everyday issue, was struggling to recover from this additional crisis. Two months after the hurricanes struck, Haiti looked like it had just been hit: the streets were littered with debris, people were so hungry they were eating mud cakes and over one million people were left homeless.

“I drew comparisons between this bleak situation and Bermuda's recovery from Hurricane Fabian in September 2003. Despite the severe level of destruction, skilled workers and the public had restored Bermuda after only a month of clean up. It was then, knowing how the situation could be so much better, that I felt I should be part of the solution. At that stage I had no idea about what part I would play, but seeing such extreme hardship and depravation just stole my heart.”

Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation, the Hon. Neletha Butterfield, MBE, JP, MP, added: “Feed My Lambs Ministry is empowering the Haitian people to improve their own lives through its commitment to increasing access to education. Mr. Rego is particularly remarkable in that he is not only supporting the Haitian people but also young Bermudians by giving them purpose through their relief work and helping them to identify their own skills and strengths.”

Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, the Hon. Michael Scott, JP, MP, added: “Mr. Rego is living out the noble adage that we are our brother's keeper and that boundaries of geography have not and will not deter him helping those in need. I salute him for choosing our Haitian brothers and sisters to be the recipients of his generosity. In doing so, he demonstrates to all of us that to whom much is given, much is required.”

Terry Roberson, General Manager of Bermuda CableVision, says: “Mr. Rego has created Feed My Lambs Ministry to be the helping hands to those who are less fortunate. At the same time, he is influencing young Bermudian lives. I congratulate Mr. Rego on his selfless work and I am delighted to present him with this quarter's CableVision Community Service Award.”

In Mr. Rego's latest campaign, he sent three freight containers from Bermuda last week filled with public donations of clothes, construction materials and teaching equipment. The supplies will assist the Haitians in building the transitional home for older orphans, as well as the first trade school. His long-term plan is to create a series of trade schools to increase the country's skills base and help it develop and sustain a solid infrastructure.

In honour of Mr. Rego, CableVision is making a $1,000 donation to the Feed My Lambs Ministry.
