Hamilton, Bermuda, April 17th, 2008 - Bermuda CableVision has enhanced its local community service commitment with a new philanthropic event called The Premier's Cup Annual Charity Golf Tournament.  The first annual tournament took place on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 at Tucker's Point Club.

Collectively Bermuda CableVision and the Government of Bermuda decided that an annual golf tournament would generate new excitement for local charity fundraising. Bermuda CableVision will continue to host this event with the Government each year.

Premier, Dr. the Honorable Ewart Brown, J.P., M.P. and CableVision General Manager Terry Roberson were instrumental in getting this new initiative off the ground and led each of their respective teams.  They played 18 holes of stiffly tied golf before the Premier's team won in a putting playoff.

The Premier stated: “This should send a strong message to those who think that the government golf team is a pushover.  We are a force to be reckoned with.  But the CableVison team can still feel good about themselves, since their losing effort is a huge victory for an important charity.”

As captain of the Government Team the $1,000 winnings will go to the Premier's designated charity, the Bermuda Healthcare Foundation, which gives scholarships to young people who want to study in the healthcare field.  Minister Nelson Bascome, Minister Derrick Burgess and Minister Elvin James rounded out the Government team foursome.

Terry Roberson, General Manager of CableVision stated: “The event was a huge success and it was a great honour to play golf with the Premier.  It is refreshing to see people taking time out of their day to enjoy a great sport and give to others who are in need. We look forward to making this a premier event on the island.”

Both of this year's participating teams can invite one additional team to participate in next year's event.  And, each team in next year's event will attract another team, thus growing the tournament each year.
