Here is some information you may find useful!
Will all programming on these HD channels be in HD Format?
Not always. There will be times when the networks broadcast digital-only content on these channels. CableVision has no control over this process. You'll still have high quality digital pictures and sound, but not the higher resolution of HDTV.
What is digital cable?
With digital cable, CableVision is able to offer greater choice and quality than is possible with analogue television transmission. CableVision uses digital technology to compress video signals, allowing us to deliver more than one digital programming service in the same space formerly occupied by a single analogue programming service.
Digital cable can provide a host of new services, such as video-on-demand, interactive television and commercial-free, CD-quality music.
What is the difference between
digital cable and HDTV?
For today's digital cable programming, digital set-top boxes translate the digital signals for display on conventional analogue television sets. In contrast, HDTV has a much higher level of resolution and must be received on a digital television set capable of displaying HD.
What kind of equipment do I need to receive HDTV?
1) You will need a digital television capable of displaying a high-definition signal, which uses either the 1080i or 720p format. Most high-definition digital televisions will display these formats.
2) To receive the HDTV programming, you will also need to upgrade your current digital home communications terminal to an HD terminal. This equipment can be purchased or rented.
How does the HD DVR work?
The HD DVR acts like a video server, allowing you to record and store up to 80 hours of programming, including HD programmes, and play them back whenever you like, all without videotapes or a VCR. You can build a library of your favourite programmes, and at playback you can stop, pause and rewind live TV.
What type of cables do I need to hook up my HD DVR?
Component video cables are included with the HD DVR. You may use an HDMI, High-Definition Multimedia Interface; however in that event you will have to purchase the necessary cable separately yourself.
Is the HD DVR equipped with parental control functions?
Yes. The multi-room HD DVR offers great parental control options so you can limit or restrict the television programmes that your children can watch or record. It's a great feature that will appeal to those parents who want to monitor what their children watch even when they can't be there with them.
Will CableVision be adding more channels to the HDTV tier?
Yes, we plan to introduce more high-definition programming and will be making more announcements in the coming months.
